“I See Hope!”

Before Depression Recovery I felt inadequate and ineffectual in every task. I embraced the thought of peace in death. At Depression Recovery my counselors gave insight to the deplorable self-talk I was engaged in. I have been given the tools of cure. For largely the first time, I see hope!

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Dr. Neil Nedley?

Dr. Neil Nedley is an internal medicine physician who started researching depression and anxiety due to the many patients who came to him with various
difficult-to-diagnose disorders. His fascination with mental health began in the 1990s and continues to grow as he uncovers new studies on mental and physical
well-being. Meet the Nedley Health Team at https://www.nedleyhealth.com/our-company/our-team.

Do I need to be depressed or anxious to benefit?

No, the program not only helps those dealing with depression and anxiety, but also serves as a tool in achieving peak mental performance and a healthier lifestyle. Parents also find the suggestions helpful in creating an atmosphere at home in which to raise healthy children.

What is the format of the program?

The program will run for eight weeks, followed on the 9 th week by a graduation dinner. Each of the eight weekly sessions lasts for 2 hours. The first hour consists of Dr.Nedley’s DVD lecture, where we will explore evidence-based, holistic tools for overcoming depression and anxiety. The second hour is a facilitated group discussion, using the Workbook as a guide to reinforce the DVD lecture and to discuss practical tips and suggestions for implementing what you are learning into everyday life. To get the best results, you will also be encouraged to complete weekly reading assignments and to track the application of lifestyle changes.

What materials will I receive?

When you sign up for this program you will receive access to not only the 8-part videos series, but also the Workbook and additional reading materials, which reinforce lessons from the video presentations and exercises.

Foremost among the books recommended is Depression: The Way Out, written by Dr. Nedley. This book contains valuable knowledge that can help you not only identify and correct the causes of depression but improve overall mental health. It is worth noting that the book came off the press the morning of the 9/11 attacks, and within a month Dr. Nedley was holding a seminar in New York city for the grieving and depressed individuals affected by the attacks, using this as their textbook.

Also included in the reading assignments are the books SOS Help for Emotions and Telling Yourself the Truth, written by experts in the field of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT is the only form of psychotherapy that has been scientifically proven to work better than a placebo in treating major depression.

Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to take the Depression and Anxiety Assessment Test™ (DAAT) twice, once at the start of the program and once at the end. The DAAT provides an in-depth analysis and assessment of your mental health. It tells you if you have major depression and how severe it is. It also tells you whether you suffer from anxiety and to what degree. In addition, it gives you your current level of emotional intelligence (EQ), one of the most important indicators of future success. The DAAT will also pinpoint your risk factors. Extensive research on the causes of depression and anxiety has uncovered over 100 risk factors; these risk factors have plausible physiologic causes for mental health decline. The DAAT will tell you how many categories of risk factors are present, will give you a detailed report of your active risk factors and what can be done to reverse most, if not all, of your underlying causes. This evaluation model will provide you with your baseline depression, anxiety, and EQ levels when you start the course to compare with your results when you have completed the course, after 8 weeks.

And last but not least, you will be provided with brain-healthy food samples and recipes, plus a graduation dinner for you and a guest after completion of the program (if allowed, based on local COVID restrictions).

What is the cost to attend the program?

This is an educational program operated 100% by volunteer staff, and Calgary Central SDA Church generously allows us to use the facility free of charge, so there is no cost for the program itself.

The only fee charged is to cover the cost of the materials, shipping (materials are purchased in bulk and all savings are passed on to attendees), the two DAAT assessments, and a few supplies. Keep in mind that this fee includes a lifetime membership to attend future programs, as you would already have all the books. Two people in the same household can share most of the books; the second person would only need their own Workbook and their individual DAAT assessments, so the second person’s fee would be 50% of the total.

Payment plans are available and partial scholarships are also being offered by Calgary Central SDA Church to assist a limited number of individuals who would like to attend but may be facing financial difficulties. Please contact us as soon as possible if you would like to take advantage of these options.
